About Us

Formed in 2011, Sloppy Seconds, Inc. is a non-profit animal sanctuary located in the Bay Area, California. We provide a permanent home for unwanted, abused, or neglected animals while promoting compassion and humane treatment for all animals. In the future, we are hoping to offer educational outreach programs to the public, so please check back in with us and see what we have to offer!

We came up with our name “Sloppy Seconds” one day and it seemed perfectly appropriate for the sanctuary. We knew we would be rescuing pigs (which are associated with words like slop and sloppy) and that the animals we rescued would be second-hand, coming from homes that either neglected them or no longer wanted them. Hence, the animals here are “sloppy seconds!”

Want to learn more?

Our ultimate goal is to educate current pet owners and anyone who may be interested in adopting about responsible pet ownership. We offer limited site visits where we teach about pet ownership, behavior, enrichment, training, feeding, etc. We also love having children with special needs come by and visit with the sanctuary residents.

If you know of any opportunities for us to speak (schools, groups, meetups, offsites, etc), please contact us and let us know.
