Bay Area Pet Expo

We had a great time at the Bay Area Pet Expo last weekend. We brought along Nettie (our green iguana), and she was a wonderful animal ambassador!

The Bay Area Pet Expo was filled with rescue groups urging people to adopt, and Sloppy Seconds was there to remind people to DO THEIR RESEARCH and THINK before they adopt. There are so many unwanted animals that get dumped in shelters and rescue groups all over the country. People need to understand the commitment required of them before bringing home a live animal.

Nettie (our five year old green iguana) was the perfect animal ambassador to bring along. The majority of the guests walking through had NO idea iguanas could get this large – including a Petco employee (that sells iguanas) and several ex-iguana owners! Our major focus was discussing lifespan & special requirements of certain exotic pets (diet, lighting, heat, humidity, enrichment, cost to own them, etc).

We had a great time doing this educational outreach program, and we can’t wait for the next one. Hope to see you there!
